EHR Certification Flexibility Final Rule Commentary and Analysis

Detailed (but concise) Commentary & Analysis on the EHR Certification Flexibility Final Rule

Almost no one seems happy with the flexibility final rule on EHR certification from CMS.  John Lynn provides a detailed but concise commentary and analysis of the EHR certification flexibility final rule and why so many are disappointed with it.  I happened to be in an industry meeting on the subject yesterday headed by expert Sarah Corley and many echoed with CHIME President & CEO, Russell Branzell who suggested. “Now, the very future of Meaningful Use is in question.”

One of several reasons why so many folks are disappointed in the rule is that many feel it penalizes those who worked the hardest to comply (both vendors and practices).  Many organizations made compromises and rushed EHR implementations in order to comply with MU stage 2 and now wish they had taken more time.

If you are reading this hoping to ascertain if you should attest then I echo John’s advice which is “If you have the 2014 Certified EHR software and can attest to meaningful use stage 2, then you better go ahead and do it.

John’s analysis and commentary is concise and insightful (as always) and is worth the short read.  If participation in MU Stage 2 does not dramatically increase in the last part of the year then the whole Meaningful Use program is going to be at risk.
